17 Musicians Who’ve Waved a Rainbow Flag to Support the LGBT Community
June 9, 2018
PRIDE MONTH, EVERYONE! Pride parades are literally happening all over the world as we speak and people in the LGBTQ+ community (yes, that includes the allies) are marching in large numbers for one reason and one reason only: EQUALITY.
What’s important to remember is, whether you’re marching in a pride parade or simply wearing more rainbow to rep your pride, you’re not alone. Tons of people around the world are working towards achieving the same level of equality for the
LGBTQ+ community, and that even includes some of our favorite celebs!
In the past, musicians have been particularly
outspoken when it comes to LGBTQ+ rights, especially when they’re performing live. In fact, several artists have even taken the stage for a performance with a rainbow flag in hand, waving it around for all to see. Wondering which musicians proudly waved that beautiful pride flag around the stage? Take a look:

As we all know,
Harry Styles is a woke prince who needs to be protected at all costs. Unlike many other celebrities, the 24-year-old doesn't turn a blind eye to the injustices that are consistently faced by members of the LGBTQ+ community. Instead, he raises awareness and channels a ton of love and acceptance at his shows by waving the pride flag proudly around the stage.
So far, Harry's waved the rainbow flag at several of his tour dates and, obviously, his diehard fans are super excited about it. Not only does this simple show of love and support fill the crowd with excitement, but it also proves that his heart is as good and pure as we always knew it was. *Swoon*

With a hit song like "Born This Way," there's no question that
is one of the biggest supporters of the LGBTQ+ community in the music industry. While the tune applies to everyone in that it implies that every single person should be their true selves, it holds special meaning to the gay community especially, and has even inspired many people to come out to their family and friends. Lady Gaga
As if her music didn't showcase her pride a ton already, LG took it a step further on her last tour when she held a gay pride flag before performing the song "Come To Mama." She then addressed the crowd saying, "Everybody's gotta love each other. You got to stop throwing stones at your sisters and your brothers. Cause man, it wasn't that long ago we were all just living in the jungle. So for any of you who don't believe in equality that are here this evening, come to mama." ICONIC!

Since the dawn of
's fame, there was no denying that the group had a huge LGBTQ+ fanbase. And, although Fifth Harmony Lauren Jauregui is the only one who publicly identifies as a member of the community, the other girls are super supportive and are total allies.
During several of their shows, the ladies have waved rainbow flags around the stage to show their support, not only for Lauren, but for all of their queer fans, as well. Not only do fans get to go to a concert and enjoy music, but they also get to spend several hours in a space full of love and acceptance, and that feels

Considering the fact that
Halsey openly bisexual, it's no surprise at all that she's a big supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. That being said, she is yet another musician who has proudly galavanted around the stage with a rainbow flag in tow.
This wasn't just a one time thing, though! At one of her concerts in Moscow, the 23-year-old hit back at Russia's anti-LGBT laws by hanging a huge pride flag on the stage. She then proceeded to tell the audience that if there are people in their lives making them feel bad about who they are, they should tell them to "f*ck off."

If you thought Harry was the only member of One Direction who outwardly showed his support for the gay community, you were sorely mistaken. Why? Well, because
is another member of the group who waved a pride flag on stage! Louis Tomlinson
The truth of the matter is, diehard fans of the boys went to their concerts to support the boys and listen to some good music, but imagine how happy their LGBTQ+ fans must've been when they saw their idols waving all of those beautiful colors in the air. Our hearts are warming up just thinking about it!

If it wasn't already clear with the lyric "we can love who we want to" from her hit single "We Can't Stop,"
Miley Cyrus is an outstanding activist and supporter of LGBTQ+ rights. That being said, she rocks rainbow-colored clothing all the time and she even wrapped herself up in the pride flag back in 2014 on her Bangerz tour.
Of course, fans absolutely loved seeing her rock the rainbow flag, but what we love even more is that she continues to fight for equal rights for everyone! Just look at her Happy Hippie Foundation, for example, which is an organization she started that focuses on homelessness within the LGBTQ+ community. Wow... she never ceases to amaze us!

Like Florence Welch,
Adele was another musician who responded to the hateful Pulse nightclub shooting by waving the pride flag around the stage at her show. Even better is that she dedicated one of her songs to the victims of the horrible tragedy.
If you're familiar with the British singer's rendition of
Bob Dylan's "Make You Feel My Love," you know how absolutely beautiful it is. Well, before she sang that song live at her concert in June 2016 following the shooting, she was sure to let the audience know it was for the victims. We still have chills just thinking about it!

Let's be real... we've all been knew that
's been an icon in the queer community for, well, EVER, but she further proved her icon status by — you guessed it — letting that rainbow flag fly high at her concert. Pink
Following one particular tour date, the singer received a tweet from a troll calling her a lesbian. In true Pink fashion, she hit them back with a tweet that said, "Fun fact: when you twitter me and say 'you're a lesbian' it really doesn't bother me at all. It's a compliment. Most of my fav ppl are, so..." Not to mention, this happened way back in 2013, so in other words, she's been the coolest person ever for a
really long time.

Sometimes, artists don't even have an intention of waving a pride flag around at their concert, but it just sort of happens. How? Well, in
Ed Sheeran's case, a fan at his London concert last year brought a rainbow flag along. When the redhead spotted it in the audience, he took it, held it high and even waved it around through the finale of his show.
Based on the reactions on Twitter, fans were shook by their woke king, tweeting things like, "Yas, Ed Sheeran waving the pride flag during his concert tonight," and "Ed waved a pride flag last night during you need me and I love him a lot???" TBH, same.

Camila Cabello went solo, she still has a ton of support, especially from her LGBTQ+ fans. Of course, she always wants Camilizers to know she fully loves and supports them, which is why she pulled out a rainbow flag and waved it around the stage during several stops of her Never Be The Same Tour.
Like Ed's fans, Cam's couldn't get over the flag, and they totally freaked out over it on Twitter. One person wrote, "Camila with the pride flag is my actual religion," while another said, "We stan an ICON." It's true... we do!

Ariana Grande is kind of known for dancing around with pride flags on stage, doing so during her hit song, "Break Free," for years now. The 24-year-old continued the trend at this year's iHeartRadio Wango Tango, which happened on June 2nd, just two days into Pride Month.
Audience members were all given pride flags, too, so you can imagine how incredible it was to have thousands of people join Ari in supporting the LGBTQ+ community on such a public stage (no pun intended).

Meghan Trainor took the stage at iHeartRadio's Wango Tango earlier this month and helped kick off Pride Month with a visual aid. The blonde beauty grabbed a rainbow flag, held it high and encouraged each member of the audience to do the same. Soon enough, thousands of people were showing their support the the LGBTQ+ community as she sang "Like I'm Gonna Lose You" and it was amazing.

Panic! at the Disco's tour last year, lead singer Brendon Urie would tie the pride flag around his microphone for the song "Girls/Girls/Boys" as famous LGBTQ+ celebrities showed up on the screens behind him. The best part, however, was that the crooner wasn't the only one getting in on the fun.
At some of the band's concerts, members of the audience came up with a great idea to show off their pride, as well. With colors of the rainbow printed on paper hearts, the audience would come together to form one giant pride flag — how magical is that?!

Demi Lovato performed at L.A. Pride in 2014, and even shot part of her "Really Don't Care" music video there. But her support of the LGBTQ+ community did not stop when the event ended.
When she was on the
Future Now Tour with Nick Jonas in 2016, she made a stop in Sunrise, Florida, which is only a few hours away from Orlando. She honored the victims of the tragic Pulse Nightclub shooting, which happened less than a month before, by draping a rainbow flag over her shoulders as she sang the uplifting ballad "Skyscraper." *chills*

In June 2016, a shooter opened fire at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida killing 49 innocent people. In response, several famous musicians made tributes to the lives lost during their live concerts, including
Following the tragic events in Orlando, Florence pulled out the gay pride flag at her concert in Brooklyn, New York, and led a chant saying "love is love." This chant and the waving of the flag was meant to show her audience how even after a terrible act of hatred like that, there's still love all around us. Amazing!

If the name
Lynn Gunn doesn't sound familiar, the band Pvris probably does. Lynn is the lead singer of the band, and she definitely hasn't been shy when it comes to advocating for gay rights and speaking about her place in the LGBTQ+ community. In fact, like everyone else on this list, she showed off her pride by waving a pride flag around the stage.
Lynn also showcased her support by writing a love letter to the LGBTQ+ community on
Billboard. She wrote, "I came out to my parents when I was 18 years old. I left a letter under my mother's pillow, gave her a kiss goodbye and then embarked on my first tour ever. I remember sitting in the back of a van headed to the abyss of the open road, fearing for my life... At the time, I never realized how impactful something as simple as being my authentic self and true to my heart would be for thousands of others out there." Yup... she's truly changing lives.

While most of the artists on this list can be described as millennials, there are a bunch of older musicians who are big supporters of the queer community, too. This includes the legendary
Paul McCartney, who also draped himself in the pride flag after the horrible events that took place at the nightclub in Orlando.
During the concert, the former Beatles member held the flag up high for the entire audience to see at his concert in Berlin, saying, "We stand together with Orlando." Of course, the audience erupted in cheers and applause, and still, we can't quite get over all the love that was at that concert that day.
