7 Best Moments from the MTV Movie & TV Awards 2018

By  |

From Black Panther‘s big wins to Tiffany Haddish absolutely slaying her hosting duties, this year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards were a hit. Check out the 7 best moments from the show below:

1. Tiffany’s Black Panther skit

Tiffany Haddish kicked off the show with a hilarious Black Panther skit. Thanks to the magic of CGI, the actress implanted herself into the world of Wakanda and challenged King T’Challah for the coveted role of MTV Movie & TV Awards host.

2. Love Simon stars Keiynan Lonsdale and Nick Robinson win Best Kiss

Another awesome moment from the show came when Love, Simon stars Keiynan Lonsdale and Nick Robinson won the Best Kiss award. Keiynan gave a beautiful speech in which he said, “You can live your dreams and wear dresses… You can live your dreams and kiss the one that you love, no matter what gender they are. You can live your dreams and believe in magic.” LOVE!

3. Michael B. Jordan throws shade at Roseanne Barr

Our next favorite moment from the show came when Michael B. Jordan won Best Villain and threw some MAJOR shade at Roseanne Barr. The 65-year-old’s revived TV show was canceled recently due to some offensive and racist comments she made on Twitter, which prompted the Black Panther actor to make the dig.

4. Nick Jonas’ “Anywhere” performance

Another unforgettable moment from the show came when Nick Jonas slayed his performance of “Anywhere” with DJ Mustard. Sure, it would’ve been better if there was a Jonas Brothers reunion on the stage, but we’ll take what we can get.

5. Millie Bobby Brown speaks out against bullying

A particularly powerful moment during the show came when Millie Bobby Brown spoke out against bullying during her acceptance speech for Best Performance for Stranger Things. The 14-year-old’s comments were a direct response to all of the harassment she recently received on Twitter, which prompted her to leave the social media app altogether. But she did tell fans during her MTV Awards speech, “If you need a reminder of how worthy you are, and to rise above the hate, message me on Instagram.” Could this girl BE any better of a role model?!

6. Stranger Things 2 wins Best Show

And speaking of Millie’s big win, Stranger Things 2 also won Best Show. Unfortunately Millie couldn’t be present to accept the award along with her cast mates due to a split kneecap (ouch!), but Sadie Sink, Finn Wolfhard, and Gaten Matarazzo nailed the group acceptance speech and gave a huge shout out to fans for all their support for the series.

7. Black Panther wins Best Movie & Chadwick Boseman gives James Shaw Jr. his Best Hero award

We could not contain our excitement when Black Panther won Best Movie, presented by Lady Gaga — but also, it was kind of a given. A more surprising moment from the show, however, came when Chadwick Boseman brought real-life hero James Shaw Jr. to the awards show and presented him with his Best Hero award. The Black Panther actor explained that James Shaw Jr. was the hero who fought off a gunman who opened fire in a waffle house in Tennessee in April of this year. James was clearly touched by the gesture, and was given a standing ovation as he accepted the award. We’re not crying, YOU’RE CRYING!
