2012 MTV Movie Award Nominations Announced

Nominees for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards and this year is full of, well, pretty much the same people that are nominated every year.  Yes, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 are both up for multiple awards with Breaking Dawn snagging two nominations and the final Harry Potter film managing six.  In an effort to be more mainstream, the annual awards show is changing things up a bit and having several of the awards being voted on by a panel of industry experts rather than the general public.  Perhaps one of the reason Breaking Dawn only managed to get nominations for Movie of the Year and Best Kiss.  It doesn’t …

‘The Help’ & ‘The Artist’ Dominate SAG/DGA Awards

Two of the film industries biggest awards shows were held over the weekend and wins from The Help and The Artist have placed the two films as front-runners to take home some of the Oscars biggest awards.  The Help dominated the 18th Screen Actors Guild Awards taking home three of the top movie awards, including Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for Viola Davis, Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for Octavia Spencer and the biggest award of the evening Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

‘The Artist’ Leads 2012 BAFTA Awards Nominees List

Nominees for the 2012 Orange British Academy Film Awards have been revealed with The Artist leading the pack with 12 nominations.  The cold-war era spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy which as been largely ignored during this year’s awards season came in second with 11 nominations.  Other frontrunners include My Week with Marilyn with six nominations and The Help and War Horse each picking up 5 nominations.

The awards show will be handed out on Sunday, February 12th at the Royal Opera House in London and will be hosted by actor Stephen Fry.

Oscar 2012 Predictions: Best Picture & Best Animated Feature

With the last of the Oscar contenders hitting the big screen over the holiday weekend, we thought we would break down our predictions for the 2012 Academy Awards.  Today, we’re focusing on two of the most important categories of them all – Best Picture and Best Animated Feature.

For Best Picture, we’re thinking The Artist will be making this year’s list.  The silent film is making a lot of noise in Hollywood and if it actually won the award, it would be the first time a silent film took home Best Picture since the first Academy Awards in which Wings took home the golden statue back in 1928.  The other spots will most likely go to The Descendants, the story of …

‘The Artist’ Leads Golden Globe Awards Nominations

The Hollywood Foreign Press this morning announced nominees for the 69th annual Golden Globes.  Critical fave The Artist led with six nominations, including best motion picture, comedy or musical.  George Clooney starrer The Descendants and the female heavy ensemble The Help both followed with five nominations each.  Moneyball, Ides of March and Midnight in Paris earned four nomination each.

The awards will be handed out on Sunday, January 15th during a live broadcast hosted once again by Ricky Gervais.

Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations Announced

Nominees for the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards for outstanding performances in 2011 in five film and eight primetime television categories and for the SAG honors for outstanding action performances by film and television stunt ensembles were announced this morning in Los Angeles at the Pacific Design Center’s SilverScreen Theater in West Hollywood.  The Help lead the list with four nominations including a lead actress nom for Viola Davis, supporting actress noms for Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer and a nomination for Oustanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Other nominees included The Artist, The Descendants, Midnight in Paris and Bridesmaids.  The awards will be handed out on Sunday, January 29th, 2012 with a live broadcast on TNT …

Broadcast Film Critics Association Announce 2011 Nominees

The Broadcast Film Critics Association has revealed their nominees for the 17th annual Critics Choice Movie Awards.  The BFCA is comprised of over 250 TV, radio and online critics and their nominees are typically a good indication of the films that will be nominated for this year’s Academy Awards.  The Artist and Hugo lead this year’s nominations with eleven total, followed by The Help and Drive each with eight nominations.  The Critics Choice Awards will be handed out January 12th at the Hollywood Palladium with a live broadcast on VH1.

‘The Help’ Star Jessica Chastain To Play Princess Diana In Biopic

Jessica Chastain in 'The Help'

Jessica Chastain has been one of the breakout stars of the year with roles in The Tree of Life, The Debt and the critical and box office hit The Help.  Word is, her next role could be playing Princess Diana in the biopic Caught In Flight, based on her relationship with heart surgeon, Dr. Hasnat Kahn.  The film is expected to go into production early next year.  Do you think she is a good choice to play the Princess of Wales.
