Sacha Baron Cohen Responds To Oscar Ban As “The Dictator”

The Dictator Check out the video

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Science have been in a tizzy the past few days over reports that actor (and Academy member) Sacha Baron Cohen would be arriving to the Oscar red carpet on Sunday in full costume as General Aladeen, his freedom hating character coming to theaters May 11th in The Dictator.  The Academy is adamantly opposed to using the award show as a publicity stunt to promote upcoming films and some have reported that the Academy has gone so far as to revoke Cohen’s tickets.  The actor was planning to attend the awards as part of the cast of Hugo, the film with the most nominations this year.  The Academy has said it will allow Cohen …

Oscar Pool Predictions

Oscar2012

With most of the industry award shows now behind us, we are getting a good indication of who will most likely take home gold this weekend at the 84th Annual Academy Awards.  To help you with your office Oscar pool, we’ve compiled our list of who we think will win come Sunday.

Best Picture:  Early on, this was a battle between the two films with the most nominations, Hugo and The Artist.  Alexander Payne’s The Descendants soon became a legitimate contender with The Help being an audience favorite.  With several wins at other big award shows, we think The Artist is the hands down favorite to take the prize.

Leading Actor:   This will be one of the toughest races to predict …

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has teamed with Funny Or Die for their first Oscar trailer celebrating the return of host Billy Crystal after a ten year absence.  He is joined by stars Robin Williams, Josh Duhamel, Megan Fox, William Fichtner and Vinnie Jones in this send-up of some of Crystal’s memorable Oscar openings.

“We wanted to try something a little bit different this year instead of a traditional, clip-based piece,” said Academy Chief Marketing Officer Christina Kounelias. “The trailer has a fun twist that conveys how excited everyone is to have Billy back.”

Oscar 2012 Predictions: Best Picture & Best Animated Feature

Oscar Check out the video

With the last of the Oscar contenders hitting the big screen over the holiday weekend, we thought we would break down our predictions for the 2012 Academy Awards.  Today, we’re focusing on two of the most important categories of them all – Best Picture and Best Animated Feature.

For Best Picture, we’re thinking The Artist will be making this year’s list.  The silent film is making a lot of noise in Hollywood and if it actually won the award, it would be the first time a silent film took home Best Picture since the first Academy Awards in which Wings took home the golden statue back in 1928.  The other spots will most likely go to The Descendants, the story of …
