Deadpool writer Rob Liefeld hit up the Amazing Arizona Comic-Con recently and among other topics, gave the audience some insight of some possible movement on the long anticipated Deadpool movie. Liefeld revealed that 20th Century Fox has shot eight minutes of test footage for the film. In addition to seeing how the film will look, the studio is also interested in the potential to release the film with an R-rating. This would be the first X-Men film to be released with such a rating.
In regards to the movie, Liefeld said, “They’ve got a great director on the movie, they’ve got a great script. I may or may have not seen some sort of test of footage that would blow your mind if you saw it and go holy crap and that’s Deadpool in costume. Katana swords, guns, shooting people’s faces off and making me laugh. And I may or may not have seen something that looks just like that. And you’ve got what would amount to the first R Rated X-Men movie. Because that script is R Rated.” He went on to say, “They may or may not have wanted to shoot eight minutes to see how it would play. And all I can tell you, it’s close. It’s closer that it’s even been to going, or going Naaah, that’s too scary a proposition to make a R Rated Deadpool movie.”
There was no mention of Ryan Reynolds, but the star who played the role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine stated back in August that his next film following R.I.P.D. would most likely be Deadpool. R.I.P.D. is currently scheduled to hit theaters June 28, 2013. If all things go well, we may be seeing a Deadpool film hit theaters sometime in 2014.
