7 Big-Budget Blockbuster Movies Based on Kids’ Television Series
Movies based on TV shows are nothing new. Disney Channel has a minimum of 10 television series that became flicks; Nickelodeon has a minimum of eight live-action programs that got the film treatment. But, not all of those 18 productions hit the big screen; The Lizzie McGuire Movie and Hannah Montana: The Movie were the only ones to hit theaters. Maybe tween programs aren’t as compelling? ’cause there at least seven big-budget blockbuster movies based on kids’ TV shows.
Power Rangers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Scooby Doo — all of them were television staples for young children prior to the 2000s. And that nostalgia was taken to the big screen in time. Here are the most notable cases:
G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero marched onto TV in 1985 and is actually based on the toy line that was created first. G.I. Joe is a soldier who is just as popular as Barbie, but Joe has two of his own action movies!
In the first movie, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, we saw Channing Tatum bring the character to life and in the sequel, Dwayne Johnson took over.
