11 Movies That Were Way More Popular Than the Books They’re Based On
Although you might LOVE to read, when books are adapted to TV or film they aren’t always super successful. In fact there are LOT of books that failed as TV shows. Movies don’t always have an easy time making the jump from printed text to the big screen either. For example, when The Mortal Instruments flopped and, therefore, there was never a second film. We’re still pretty bummed about this one.
That doesn’t mean however that all books that become movies are doomed to fail. Hello, The Hunger Games and Harry Potter films prove that books can be HUGE successes and in some cases the movie versions are actually more popular than the books they are based on. To see what we mean scroll through our gallery below.
Mean Girls is one of the biggest teen films of all time, but it was actually based on the book Queen Bees and Wannabees, which was released in 2002. Although the book was good, the movie was clearly way more popular. When the film was released in 2004 it was HUGE, but that was only the beginning. More than 10 years later the film that Tina Fey created is even more amazing.
For starters there is an actual Mean Girls day, it's October 3, in case you didn't already know. Oh, and girls regularly wear pink on Wednesdays, because the Plastics did, duh.
