The Mortal Instruments is Tapped to Return! But Wait, There’s a Catch…

By  |

Shadowhunters near and far are freaking the eff out because… The Mortal Instruments is tapped to make its return!!! HOWEVER, there’s a major catch that’s making fans a little antsy. While there used to be talk of a big-screen adaptation of author Cassie Clare‘s City of Ashes, the second installment in the book franchise, now it seems like there may not be a follow-up movie to City of Bones, but rather a small-screen adaptation.

That’s right, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the YA series is headed for TV. Constantin film and television head Martin Moszkowicsz says, “It actually makes sense to do (the novels) as a TV series. There was so much from the book that we had to leave out of the Mortal Instruments film. In the series. we’ll be able to go deeper and explore this world in greater detail and depth.”

Considering how the Lily Collins– and Jamie Campbell Bower-led flick tanked at the box office last year, raking in only $31 million domestically, it makes sense that the filmmakers would shelf the idea of a sequel (though, we were really hoping there would be a chance for redemption).

So far, no network or cast is attached to the project, which is tapped for next year, so we’ve yet to form an entire opinion. But that doesn’t mean all Shadowhunters are as hesitant as we are to make a case. Here are some thoughts on the Mortal Instruments TV series from Shadowhunters like you:
