The first of the franchise hasn’t even dropped yet, but the creators of The Mortal Instruments are already banking on its success. So much so, that stars Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower are scheduled to return for the sequel come fall 2013.

According to Deadline, the on- and off-screen pair will join director Harald Zwart for the second installment just after the release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. “Buyers will get a taste for its sequel during Cannes… As it did with the first, Mister Smith Entertainment is selling the adaptation of the second book in Cassandra Clare‘s fantasy series.”

Currently, a potential film for the series’ prequel, The Infernal Devices trilogy, is also in the works. TMI Executive Producer Martin Moszkowicz, who was approached by a fan about the possibility of a movie edition of the TID franchise, tweeted, “we are working on the screenplay.”

But, whether or not the aforementioned projects will hit the big screen, you can still look forward to seeing Lily Collins in Stuck in Love with Logan Lerman, The English Teacher with Kristen Stewart‘s ex Michael Angarano, Love Rosie with Sam Claflin, and the latest adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (potentially). The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones hits theaters August 23, 2013. Is it on your must-see list? Do you think the prequel and sequel will both come to fruition?
