Millie Bobby Brown Deletes Twitter After Being Target of Homophobic Meme
If you were wondering why you couldn’t find Millie Bobby Brown on Twitter last night, it’s not because there’s a glitch in the system; the 14-year-old actually deleted her entire account as a result of being the center of homophobic memes circulating around the social media site recently.
Basically, people have been using her Instagram and Snapchat pictures and editing them with some horrific homophobic text. Many of these images are paired with the hashtag #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown, proving that they’re intended to hurt her image.
It’s obviously not the Stranger Things star’s fault at all, but we can imagine how frustrating it is to have your likeness associated with such hate, especially since she has publicly showed her support for the LGBTQ+ community in the past.
At last year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards, the actress wore two political pins — a blue ribbon recognizing the American Civil Liberties Union and a light blue ampersand to honor the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Together movement — on her white dress.
Although Millie is no longer on Twitter, she’s still actively using Instagram. Yesterday, she posted a story with the caption “good vibes only,” which seems to be fitting given the current circumstances.
