9 Male Musicians Who Admit to Suffering from an Eating Disorder
Demi Lovato, Lady Gaga, Ellie Goulding, Hilary Duff — those are just a few of the many female musicians who opened up about their battles with eating disorders. Though painful to talk about, most of them hope that by coming clean, more people — including their fans — will realize that they’re not alone in their struggles, despite bulimia and anorexia continuing to be taboo topics.
What’s even more taboo is the topic of male eating disorders. It’s so rarely discussed! Yet, believe it or not, more men suffer than you may’ve realized. According to National Eating Disorders Association, recent studies have shown an increase in the numbers. But, regardless of the stigma, we’re going to talk about male eating disorders so that you can recognize if you or someone you know needs help. Here are nine male musicians who admit to suffering from an eating disorder:
After his July 2017 arrest for alleged DUI & drug possession, Aaron Carter spoke with ET about his physical & mental health.
"I am not a meth head," he claims. "I have never touched it in my life."
Instead, the 29-year-old "I Want Candy" singer says, "I have a hiatal hernia, I have a stress condition; it's an eating disorder."
"How would you feel every two seconds, seeing a tweet, 'You have AIDS. Go die. Oh, look at this meth head. Oh, meth kills. Crack kills,'" he asks. "It's body shaming and it's the toughest thing to deal with."
