MAKEOUT’s “Blast Off” Video Will Make You Wanna Start Crowd-Surfing

By  |

The boys of 5 Seconds of Summer have musicians like Joel Madden, Alex Gaskarth and Julia Michaels to thank for helping co-write some of their biggest songs, and Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin wanted to repay the favor by working with pop-punk band MAKEOUT.

The 5SOS drummer and bassist joined forces with Blink 182 musician Travis Barker to co-write songs on the Rhode Island-based group’s latest album, The Good Life, including the tune “Ride it Out,” with both of them working on the lyrics and production and Ash playing the drums on the final studio version.

While the Aussies did NOT contribute to the band’s latest single, “Blast Off,” you’re still gonna want to give it a listen… and we’re gonna give it to you. That’s right, we’re premiering the official “Blast Off” music video exclusively!

The vid gives us a behind-the-scenes look of lead vocalist Sam Boxold, drummer Scott Eckel and guitarist Tyler Young‘s lives as they performed across the United States on the final Warped Tour over the summer.

“‘Blast Off’ is a song about letting go of the pressure people put on you when you’re having success, or lack thereof,” Sam tells us, exclusively. “It’s about where you’re heading and not where you’ve been. I always say, ‘Do your best, and if it’s good enough for you, that’s all that matters.‎’ Without ‘Blast Off,’ The Good Life just wouldn’t have felt complete. It’s kind of crazy cause when I was initially writing that song, I was thinking about all of the people that told me I needed to go the 9-5 route to have a happy and fulfilled life. There I was, sitting in a studio in LA working with the likes of Travis Barker, John Feldmann, Lil Aaron and Ashton and Calum of 5SOS and getting to live out my dreams. ‎I always wanted to do exactly what I’m doing right now and none of it would have been possible if I didn’t believe in myself and ignore the doubters. I think it’s important to remind people of that, especially in such a social media based world.”

Similar to 5SOS’ first “Youngblood” music video, watching the “Blast Off” music video will fill a bit of a void if you weren’t able to catch the group perform on Warped. But hey — if you’re still craving crowd-surfing, moshing and singing until your lungs give out, you’re in luck! MAKEOUT is headed out on another tour, this time with Cute is What We Aim For, starting in early November.

Check out the “Blast Off” music video above; you will NOT regret it!
