Fans Outraged That Mac Miller Was Missing from Emmys’ ‘In Memoriam’

The 70th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards aired last night, and while the show generally went off without a hitch, there’s one thing that’s causing quite the uproar. As expected, the Emmys aired an ‘In Memoriam’ segment to pay tribute to celebrities who died within the last year. Everyone from Anthony Bourdain to Burt Reynolds got a spot in the memorial, but Mac Miller, who passed away on September 7 from an apparent drug overdose, was noticeably missing.

We know what you might be thinking — Mac Miller is a musician and the Emmys honors actors; why would he be included in the memorial segment?? That’s a very good point, except when you realize that the show did not, in fact, only pay tribute to members of the film and television industry who passed away recently. People like Aretha Franklin and John McCain were also honored, so that argument is null and void.

Also, the 26-year-old rapper had his own reality show on MTV2, Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family, for two seasons from 2013 to 2014, so he was TECHNICALLY still a part of the on-screen community.

Whatever the case, fans were not happy to see that the Emmys did not honor him at all during the show.

Mac’s ex-girlfriend, Ariana Grande, was supposed to attend the awards show with fiancé Pete Davidison, but chose to stay home in NYC because she is still mourning the rapper’s death.

“Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much needed time to heal and mend,” Ari’s team said in a statement. “She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones and work on new music without deadline. She thanks her fans for their understanding.”
