Luke Hemmings Supports Gay Marriage After Arzaylea Calls Him Homophobic

Luke Hemmings and Arzaylea‘s relationship ended on a less-than positive note. The 22-year-old was first accused of cheating on the 5 Seconds of Summer frontman, but then she claimed HE was actually the cheater. She also told fans the 21-year-old did cocaine, hired escorts and was racist, judgmental and homophobic. Yikes.

While Luke’s friends defended him following his ex’s rampage, he never directly addressed the allegations. Fast forward to now and the “Girls Talk Boys” singer is busy on tour with his band and still hasn’t said anything. What he DID do, however, is speak out on an important world issue, which is something he hasn’t really done in the past.

Same-sex marriage is currently illegal in Luke’s home country of Australia, but residents are now getting the chance to vote on if they believe gay couples should be able to wed. The musician took to Twitter yesterday to encourage all Aussies to vote in favor of legalization, even though he’s “not usually one to comment on politics.”

“I’m not usually one to comment on politics but being my home country I would urge all Australians to vote to legalize same sex-marriage,” he tweeted last night. “Can’t believe Australia hasn’t made this happen yet! Love is love.”

Members of the #5SOSFamily were thrilled that Luke used his platform to speak out on something so important. They also couldn’t help but notice that the timing was…interesting, considering that his ex-girlfriend just recently called him homophobic.
