Rapper Lil Xan Says He’s Quitting Music Because of Mac Miller’s Death
The death of Mac Miller affected thousands, including friends, family members and, of course, ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande. But rapper’s passing had a profound impact on fellow rapper Lil Xan, who announced that he’s quitting music because of it.
The 22-year-old made a video for Complex‘s ‘Open Late‘ series and explained that the late musician was the reason why he started rapping and his death is “mainly” the reason he’s stepping away from the industry.
“What Mac Miller meant to me… he was my idol, my hero, the main reason why I even wanted to really pursue music, because music was never what I wanted to do. I wanted to be a photographer and just got tangled in this life. But he’s the reason I pursued music and mainly the reason why I’m quitting music. Plus, all the hate. I just don’t want to deal with that no more.”
Xan says he saw the 26-year-old for the last time at a private concert in Los Angeles at the beginning of August, about a month before he passed away from an apparent drug overdose, and the words Mac left him with will send chills up your spine.
“The last time I saw Mac Miller, we were just becoming good friends. I saw him at his last performance at Hotel Cafe. It was amazing. It was a 100 people only allowed in there, fans. I think I met his parents back in the green room. We even met Jason Sudeikis. And as I was leaving, I said, ‘Thank you so much, Mac,’ took a picture. I tell him every time how much of an inspiration he is to me. He was the nicest guy. He really is who he portrayed in interviews. I feel like we could relate a lot. The last things he said was, ‘Be safe, I love you.'”
Mac was an amazing person and will be greatly missed.
