Liam Payne Says He Hated His Life During the Height of One Direction
The former members of One Direction have been dissing the band left and right ever since they ventured off to do solo projects. Liam Payne recently did an interview with the Daily Star where he recalled one of the worst moments from his 1D days.
The 24-year-old musician says he was out to dinner with his family during a time the band was at the height of its fame when a cameraman accidentally knocked over his mom and he was pushed over the edge.
“I just wanted a burger with my parents,” he said. “I cried my eyes out. I thought, ‘I can’t do this’ and I really hated my life.”
The “Strip That Down” singer recently opened up about how fans were once so passionate that he, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson couldn’t even step outside. He admits that he struggled with mental health issues and had a drinking problem at the time.
He explained, “It sent me a bit AWOL at one point, if I’m honest. I can remember when there were 10,000 people outside our hotel. We couldn’t go anywhere. It was just gig to hotel, gig to hotel. And you couldn’t sleep, because they’d still be outside. People were speaking to me about mental health in music the other day, and that’s a big issue. Sometimes you just need some sun, or a walk.”
Former 1D guy Zayn Malik also admitted to suffering from mental health issues, including “extreme anxiety” while he was still a part of the band. He still struggles today, which is why he doesn’t perform live.
We know Liam loves One Direction and all his fans, but we can’t even imagine how hard it must’ve been to be thrust into that crazy world at such a young age.
