Get All the Details on Kylie Jenner’s Baby’s Unique Name — Stormi
The week is barely over and needless to say, we’re all still pretty shook after Kylie Jenner took all the attention away from the Super Bowl on Sunday and revealed that she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on February 1. It didn’t take long for fans to immediately start guessing what the child’s name would be, with many thinking that it’d be Butterfly for various well-thought out reasons.
But as it turns out, Ky’s new baby girl wasn’t named Mariposa or Posie or anything butterfly-like. Instead, the 20-year-old and Travis Scott chose to name their daughter Stormi. Now let’s break it down and figure out when, how, and why the couple decided on such a unique moniker.
First and foremost, Stormi’s name was chosen way before she was born. According to TMZ, one of KJ’s sisters gifted her with a “light grey baby alpaca blanket” from Petit Tresor in Beverly Hills in late January and, according to a source, it was “customized to be XL-sized with ‘Stormi’ embroidered on it in black, block lettering.”
Some fans actually predicted this over a month ago — and honestly they must have magical powers because seriously, HOW?!

We seriously have no clue how that name even came up as a potential contender in the Kylie baby-name guessing pool, but props to those who guessed it for getting it right.
Now, originally, the lip kit mogul posted the name reveal photo with the caption, “Stormi” complete with an angel Emoji. Once the name was revealed, both stormijenner.com and stormiscott.com were purchased in hopes of making BANK when Kylie or trusty momager Kris purchased it for the newborn baby. However, the new mom later changed the caption to Stormi Webster, with Webster being Travis’ real last name (he was born Jacques Webster).
So for the the question on everyone’s mind: why Stormi and does it have a special meaning? According to website BehindTheName.com, Stormi is an alternative spelling of the Greenlandic “Storme” or the English word Stormy. If we take the literal meaning, then it means, “strong winds and usually rain, thunder, lightning, or snow.”
Meanwhile, Sheknows.com doesn’t have the meaning of Stormi with an I, but they do have the meaning of Stormie with an “ie” and it means tempest or a violent windy storm. The same website also states, “People with this name have a deep inner desire for love and companionship, and want to work with others to achieve peace and harmony.”
We’re sure one day we will eventually find out what exactly led to Kylie and Travis lean towards that name, but in the meantime Stormi should be all smiles because at less than a week old, her picture with momma Ky has become the most liked picture on Instagram of ALL TIME.
