Kristen Stewart Falsely Accused of Racism, But the Internet Still Hates Her
In the past, various celebrities have frequently faced criticism for inadvertent racism. Sure, some apologized and claimed they had no intention of offending people, but the underlying tones of inequality were definitely still present. When an interview with Kristen Stewart allegedly talking about the “boring” subject that is the lack of diversity at the 2016 Academy Awards came out, people thought it was going to be impossible for her to come back from the backlash… until they realized the entire thing was false, that is.
When Variety initially published, they claimed that K.Stew was commenting on diversity, which is why her quotes completely OUTRAGED people.
“If you’re bored…if you feel like there’s a lack of something in front of you…go do something,” she said. “Instead of sitting around and complaining about that, do something. Go write something, go do something for yourself. And that’s easy to say; f***, it’s hard to get movies made. It’s a huge luxury. Who just gets to make movies? That subject is just so prevalently everywhere right now and boring.”
Ummm, WHAT?! Well, as it turns out, the 25-year-old actress wasn’t commenting on the lack of African American actors getting recognition in Hollywood, but instead gender inequality in the movie industry. So while she was not being racist as everyone initially assumed, it seems that the Internet still isn’t happy and is hating on her hardcore for being sexist.
"Hold on guys! Kristen Stewart is not racist! She's just sexist!" -Twitter right now

So, Kristen Stewart calls Hollywood "disgustingly sexist" but tells POC to "do something other than complaining" about diversity issues? Ugh

I tend to defend Kristen Stewart against the vitriolic, sexist hate she gets. But she needs to take SEVERAL Seats. Bye Felicia.

Wow. We feel SO bad for Kristen for getting accused of something she didn’t do, but at the same time, the real reasoning behind her quotes isn’t that much better. Men make more money because they make better movies? Ohhhkayyy…
