The “Debilitating” Mental Illness Kristen Stewart Suffered from During Twilight
YouTube stars and mainstream celebrities alike have spoken out about their personal struggles with anxiety disorders in hopes of diminishing the stigma surrounding mental health issues. Zoe Sugg often addresses her panic attacks and gives people strategies for dealing with them. Colton Haynes bravely admitted to checking into rehab in order to stop getting physically ill from the condition. The latest celebrity to bravely speak out about her struggles? Kristen Stewart.
The 26-year-old actress recently sat down with T Magazine and opened up about how she suffered from “debilitating physical anxiety” throughout her teens and early 20s, which includes the time she was headfirst in Twilight fame.
Fortunately, the star has now gotten control of her mental health problems, and while she gets anxious from time to time, it’s “no longer negative or fear-based,” something she said came from growing up and living life.
“I do think that’s because of the storms I have weathered. It’s not that they make you stronger or calloused — but they do make you a human.”
Kristen is generally very reserved and likes to keep to herself, but also wants “so badly to expose [herself]” so people know the real her.
“I want to be understood and I want to be seen, and I want to do that in the rawest, purest, most naked way I can.”
We think it’s amazing that Kristen is comfortable enough to share her past struggles, because they are something that millions of others deal with on an everyday basis.
These 10 other female celebrities also deal with severe anxiety disorders:
While Jen claims to have been a hyperactive child, she said she began to suffer from social anxiety as soon as she started school. It got so bad that the youngster would have panic attacks before her parents dropped her off.
"When I went to school, this light went out," she told Madam Figaro. "We never knew what it was, a kind of social anxiety. I went to see a shrink, nothing worked."
Once Jennifer began acting, her anxieties started to disappear and she "felt capable whereas before [she] felt good for nothing." Even though her panic attacks have subsided since her childhood, the Hunger Games star still gets them occasionally. She told Marie Claire she " thought [she] was having a heart attack"before a THG press tour, which was really a panic attack.
