Kim Kardashian Under Fire for Limited Shade Range in KKW Beauty Concealer

By  |

You’d think after Rihanna came around and slayed the makeup industry with one of the most inclusive brands of all time, Fenty Beauty, other companies would take note and be sure to release products in an abundance of shades. But apparently, this is not the case.

Kim Kardashian is expanding her KKW Beauty brand with concealers and setting powders, but unfortunately she didn’t learn from the Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Foundation scandal and decided 16 shades is enough. Spoiler alert: it’s not.

The 37-year-old basically started the trend of having a light under-eye area and her liquid concealers are something fans have been waiting for for quite some time. When she finally announced that the product would be available for purchase on March 23 and started posting promotional images, however, supporters couldn’t help but notice there is a serious lack of shade options for people with dark skin tones. Of the 16 shades, most are suited for those with light-to-medium skin colors. There are MAYBE three or four that could work for people of color and that’s BEYOND problematic.

When Kylie Jenner‘s beauty brand, Kylie Cosmetics, came out with concealers, for example, people were super excited because there were 30 shades, including many options for those with dark skin, at launch. Sure, they were released shortly after Fenty Beauty debuted and the entire makeup industry was raving about the ample shade options, but this should not be a trend that dies out! Inclusivity is essential, people.
