Meet Khatuna Lorig, Olympic Archer and Jennifer Lawrence’s ‘Hunger Games’ Coach!

After signing on to play the role of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, Jennifer Lawrence not only had to dye her hair brown, but she also had to become an expert archer pretty quickly. So, what better way to teach Jen the proper way to shoot a bow and arrow (or at least fake it really well) than by getting an Olympian to help her?! Khatuna Lorig is an archer who is the only athlete who has been a part of three different Olympic teams and proudly holds bronze, silver and gold medals to her name.

Khatuna currently lives in California and is getting ready to compete in the 2012 London Olympics — her fifth Olympic Games! When she got the call to train Jennifer, she had no idea what actress she’d be working with or what movie it was for. She was clearly pleasantly surprised when she realized what the project was for, and was equally surprised at how quickly Jennifer picked up the sport. She told ABC News:

“She did pretty good. She got snapped with the string once on the arm, but she’s strong. She won’t quit easily.”

But, it turns out that Khatuna isn’t just a fan of Jen, but Jen is a fan of her! When she told Jen she bragged to her friends that that was her student, Jennifer responded:

“What are you talking about? You’re a four-time Olympian. I’ll see you in London and tell everyone, ‘that’s my coach!'”
