10 Things to Know About ‘Glee’ Dancer, Kat McNamara!

Katherine McNamara, or Kat as her friends call her, is blowing up the young-Hollywood scene right now. She’s landed the role of Claire on Disney XD’s Kickin’ It, she’s playing Myra in upcoming DCOM Girl vs. Monster (out October 12th!) alongside Olivia Holt, but her big breakout was during the bunheads dance scene during the “Makeover” episode of Glee, Season 4 where she portrays a mean girl in Rachel Berry’s ballet class. And that’s not all she has on her plate. This Kansas City native is a force to be reckoned with. Learn more about Kat’s hobbies — including lots o’ dancing! — her upcoming projects and what she’s pursuing in college…

1. Kat got to play Fredrika Armfeldt in Stephen Sondheim’s Broadway revival “A Little Night Music” opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury.


2. She’s a seasoned dancer taking up lessons in tap, jazz, hip-hop, ballet, lyrical, hula and waltz.


3. Kat loves learning so much that she graduated high school with honors when she was only 14-years-old. Wow. She’s now in the midst of pursuing a college degree in Business with a concentration in Finance!


4. When she was younger, she actually had blonde hair. Which look do you prefer?

5. She’s playing Becky Thatcher in the 2013 remake of Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn alongside Jake T. Austin and Super 8‘s Joel Courtney! They got to film the movie in Bulgaria, and that was the first time Kat was ever out of the United States.


6. Before Kat caught the acting bug, she played for her youth basketball team and was a ballerina until the age of 12.


7. She played Lily Bowman, Abigail Breslin’s arch-nemesis, in a little movie called New Year’s Eve.


8. She’s best friends with fellow young actor, Brendan Meyer. (You can catch him in Girl vs. Monster as well!) Check out this cute collage she made for him for his birthday:


9. Kat is planning on releasing some original music a little bit later in her career.


10. Kat does charitable work for Stomp Out Bullying and uses her voice to spread awareness to let kids know that there are consequences to their actions.


*BONUS FACT* She filmed a pilot for a new Disney Channel Original Series called Madison High, which is a spin-off of the uber-successful High School Musical. There’s sure to be tons of dancing and singing, so cross your fingers that it gets picked up!)
