Justin Bieber Criticized for Meeting CAN Prime Minister in Overalls; Fights Back
Striped overalls, yellow sneakers, a white T-shirt and a baseball cap — that’s what Justin Bieber wore to receive a Diamond Jubilee Medal from Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper this past weekend. To give you some background, this award is given to honor Canadians with significant achievements. So it’s a big deal. But the 18-year-old singer was slammed for his attire after posting “I met the Prime Minister in overalls lol” on Instagram along with this photo:
While JB clearly meant his comment to be taken lightly — notice the “lol” — media outlets were outraged, especially UK’s Daily Mail, which blazed this headline across its website: “Would a suit hurt, Justin? Bieber branded ‘white trash prince’ after wearing overalls and baseball cap to accept prestigious award from Canadian Prime Minster.”
However, since Justin’s not one to walk away from a challenge, he criticized the critics, calling out The Daily Mail‘s Hayley Peterson (who wrote the aforementioned article) specifically saying: “The pic of me and the Prime Minister was taken in a room in the arena where i was performing at that day. I walked straight from my meet and greet to him, if you “Hayley” expect me to have a change of clothes let a loan a suit at that specific time that’s crazy, It wasn’t like it was like I was going into his environment we were at a hockey arena. Wow am i ever white trash hayley peterson lol.”
[NOTE: We know he meant to say ‘alone’ instead of ‘a loan’ — must’ve been autocorrect. Yeah… that’s it.]
Prime Minister Harper echoes Bieber’s remarks (though, in a more humorous manner):
