One of Your Favorite YouTube Comedians Just Came Out as Transgender
Since Caitlyn Jenner came out as transgender, it seems that other celebrities have felt comfortable opening up about their sexuality, too. Colton Haynes and Rowan Blanchard are just two stars who spoke out about their sexual orientation recently, and now one of your favorite YouTube stars joins the ranks of those who bravely opened up.
YT comedian Jordan Raskopolous has just come out as transgender. In a video titled “What’s Happened To Jordan’s Beard?,” the Axis of Awesome member took fans through her transition, which started publicly when she shaved her beard.
“I got rid of my beard in February 2015 and for the past year a lot of you guys have been talking about it,” she said. “Some of you want to know why I got rid of it and have been asking when it will be coming back… Well, the truth of the matter is, there’s a very good reason why I got rid of my beard and a very, very good reason why it is never coming back. And that reason is that I am transgender.”
The video then cuts to Jordan jokingly discussing the shock in finding out that she’s a woman, but quickly gets back to a deep, emotional reveal about the pain she felt up until this point.
“Gender dysphoria is something I can remember dealing with ever since I was a kid, but I learned early on to be ashamed of it, and keep it a secret, and I did a really, really good job of hiding it from everybody, including myself in a lot of ways.”
Jordan decided she had to make the transition in order to have a “happy life and a happy future” when she was sitting alone in a hotel room while the group was on tour in the UK at the end of 2014. She started transitioning in March 2015, and has since been “so much happier.”
While the funny woman was initially worried that she would have to give up being a comedian, she quickly learned that her life could go on just as before.
“Being trans does not mean you have to give up on your life, your friends, your family, your career, or your achievements,” she encouraged. “I am going to continue doing exactly what I was doing before, and I’m going to be f***ing awesome.”
