Jennifer Lawrence is One of ‘TIME’ Magazine’s Most Influential People

Jennifer Lawrence has many faces. (We’ve proven that on more than one occasion.) She’s played the role of protective sister (The Hunger Games), eccentric widow (Silver Linings Playbook), scared-out-of-her-wits teen (House at the End of the Street) and more, yet she’s still completely grounded in real life, not to mention quirky. It is for all of those reasons, and then some, that she is one of America’s — scratch that — the world’s sweethearts, and most likely why she’s one of TIME magazine’s ‘Most Influential People’ of the year.

In the 10th annual issue of the list, the 22-year-old actress is referred to as “a gem. A gem with a killer stare.” Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster, who wrote the piece, begins, “You’ll remember where you were when you first felt it, how you were stuck to one spot like a small animal considering its end. The Jennifer Lawrence Stare.”

During the filming of Winter’s Bone, where Jennifer picked up her first Academy Award nomination, Jodie recalls, “I thought, ‘Sure, this girl can act. But, man, this girl can also just be.’ All of those painful secrets in her face, the feeling that there’s some terrible past that’s left impossibly angled bone and weariness in its wake. She’s worn from the pain of living — something none of her characters would ever have the energy to articulate. It’s just part of her, like skin and muscle.”

Along with the X-Men prequel star, talents such as Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake and Beyonce are also considered to be some of the most influential people in 2013. For the rest of the list, visit or pick up the special issue of TIME on newsstands.
