Jennifer Lawrence Sexually Harassed by Movie Producer Early on in Her Career

By  |

Following the now-infamous news that media mogul Harvey Weinstein allegedly sexually harassed, assaulted and even raped dozens of females, celebrities and non-celebrities alike, multiple stars are coming out with their stories of harassment & assault by other men in positions of power; stars that include Jennifer Lawrence.

At the 2017 ELLE Women in Hollywood Awards, the 27-year-old actress bravely opened up about one particular “humiliating” and “degrading” experience she had in the early days of her career. She said, “When I was much younger and starting out, I was told by producers of a film to lose 15 pounds in two weeks.” She noted that another actress had been previously fired for not losing the weight quick enough, so she was put in a really tough position.

And it only got worse. “During this time, a female producer had me do a nude line-up with about five women who were much, much, thinner than me,” the Hunger Games alum added. “We stood side-by-side with only tape covering our privates.”

“After that degrading and humiliating line-up, the female producer told me I should use the naked photos of myself as inspiration for my diet,” Jen recalled.

Once again, it got worse. The mother! star claimed that she tried to stand up for herself, telling another (male) producer that she thought the weight-loss demands were wrong. “He said he didn’t know why everyone thought I was so fat,” she said. “He thought I was ‘perfectly f*ckable.'”

What. The actual. F*CK. Maybe the guy meant it as a compliment — that’s the excuse most use for cat-callers — but no; saying a comment like that to a woman is far from a compliment; it makes them feel uncomfortable; like she’s being seen as an object. KEEP THOSE COMMENTS TO YOURSELF.

This isn’t the first time J.Law’s spoken up since the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke. Soon after, Jennifer released a statement, saying, “I was deeply disturbed to hear the news about Harvey Weinstein’s behavior. I worked with Harvey five years ago [on Silver Linings Playbook] and I did not experience any form of harassment personally, nor did I know about any of these allegations. This kind of abuse is inexcusable and absolutely upsetting.”

“My heart goes out to all of the women affected by these gross actions,” she added. “And I want to thank them for their bravery to come forward.”
