Instagram Apologizes for Accidentally Deleting Kim Kardashian’s Lollipop Ad
ICYMI, Kim Kardashian posted an ad on her Instagram page promoting a new type of weight-loss aid. She shared a picture of herself sucking on an appetite suppressant lollipop from Flat Tummy Co., which drew MAJOR backlash from fans.
Fans took to the comments and Twitter to express their outrage with the post. Some fans thought it was a dangerous ad for those with eating disorders, while others found it to be an insulting message encouraging women to starve themselves in order to have a body like Kim’s. It seemed that Kim deleted the post as a result of the backlash, but today we’ve learned that wasn’t the case.
Only a few hours after all of this backlash, Instagram came out and claimed that its algorithm accidentally deleted the post — not Kim. Instagram has since put the post back up, and the app issued a public apology for the deletion. In its statement, a rep at Instagram said, “We mistakenly removed content we shouldn’t have and apologized to Kim for the inconvenience caused.” As far as Kim and her controversial Flat Tummy Tea advertising goes, the rep declined to comment.
While Instagram remains mum on Kim’s ad, The Good Place star Jameela Jamil weighed in with her thoughts on Twitter, writing, “maybe don’t take appetite suppressors and eat enough to fuel your BRAIN and work hard and be successful. And to play with your kids. And to have fun with your friends. And to have something to say about your life at the end, other than ‘i had a flat stomach.'”
Many fans agreed with Jameela’s sentiment, and feel that Kim should have taken the post down. So far, Kim hasn’t commented on the controversy, so only time will tell if she fires back at those who took issue with the ad.
