Iggy Azalea Knew Demi Lovato Relapsed Before the Release of “Sober”
When Demi Lovato admitted that she relapsed in her latest song, “Sober,” the world was in a state of shock. The 25-year-old singer had jut celebrated the 6-year anniversary of her sobriety in March, so the news was definitely unexpected. While BFF Iggy Azalea was, of course, very upset by the news, she wasn’t shocked by the ballad’s reveal, as she already knew about the relapse.
The 28-year-old tells ET, “I had known about it, as a close friend. So I had really wanted for her to be the one to tell people that. And I worried a lot, as her friend, that something was going to leak or somebody would somehow take that and use it negatively against her, or to make her seem like she’s got a secret.”
“It’s not my business to say to my friend, ‘You need to fess up,'” she continues. “But as a friend, you worry and you’re like, ‘Oh, my God, my friend, she has this thing that people can use against her and I really want her to own it.’ And she did!”
After D.Lo released “Sober” and spoke her truth, Iggy was quick to show her bestie support. She tweeted, “Waking up listening to @ddlovato ‘sober.’ Im proud of you for having the guts to reveal your truth to the world again. NOT. EASY. Im here for you friend! (you know this) I pray you’ll choose recovery again. All of us who love you only want to see you happy and heath.”
“I was there the day we sung you happy birthday for 6 years sober,” she continued. “I jumped a random persons fence in my PJs to come get you, even when you had no clue i was gonna pop up on your ass. lmao. I am prepared to keep doing crazy sh*t b*tch. deal with it cause I love you.”
As Demi sings in the final bars of the tune, “I’m sorry that I’m here again / I promise I’ll get help / It wasn’t my intention / I’m sorry to myself.”
And that’s all we can hope for. Stay strong!
