The Hunger Games Theme Park is Now Open & It’s Like Panem Come to Life
It’s been YEARS since we first heard the musings of a Hunger Games theme park. Nearly four years, to be precise. At the time, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer revealed they were “approached in two territories about potential theme park opportunities” based on the blockbuster film franchise.
Alas, the day has finally come when we can finally speak in more than hypotheticals — the (first) Hunger Games theme park has arrived, fam!
Courtesy of motiongate Dubai‘s LIONSGATE Zone, you can physically enter the dystopian universe of Panem (minus the whole fighting-to-the-death part).
Above, you’ll note the Panem Aerial Tour, an immersive “hovercraft aerial tour” — as the name suggests — that takes you souring through the landmarks of the futuristic Capitol.
Speaking of the Capitol, there’s also the Capitol Bullet Train (below), a half-pipe rollercoaster that truly defies gravity. Like… LOOK AT IT!
And there’s still plenty to take in on the ground, too, like a street show filled with tunes from coal miners from Katniss Everdeen’s hometown of District 12, good eats from Peeta’s bakery and, of course, an array of THG-inspired merchandise.
“Dubai has always been home to some of the biggest and most prominent events and shows in the world,” Mohamed Almulla, Chief Executive Officer of DXB Entertainments PJSC, the company that owns Dubai Parks And Resorts, said (via Time Out Dubai) at the official inauguration on Friday, October 20, “Today, we are proud to launch the latest addition to Dubai Parks And Resorts, a first of its kind in the world.”
“The World of The Hunger Games brings an all-new adventure to motiongate Dubai with a variety of rides and attractions, live shows, a unique food and beverage experience in addition to exclusive movie merchandise.”
