The High School Musical TV Show is One Step Closer to Happening
We’re one step closer to getting that High School Musical TV series we were promised! Variety reports that Disney has officially hired a writer to pen an executive produce the spinoff, which will be hosted on the network’s upcoming streaming service.
Tim Federle, the co-writer of the hit animated movie Ferdinand, will serve as writer and executive producer of the unnamed HSM television adaptation.

As of right now, none of the OG stars are attached to the small-screen project, but that’s not to say their involvement is totally out of the question. Vanessa Hudgens (a.k.a. Gabriella Montez) was asked about possibly joining the TV show several months ago and she actually seemed pretty openminded.
“I dunno! I mean, we’ll see,” she said when questioned about being involved. “If they ask, who knows?”
Either way, the 29-year-old thinks Disney is “awesome” for bringing back the popular DCOM.
She explained, “I grew up watching musicals. I love musicals. So I feel like the longer we can keep them alive, the better.”
