Bellatrix Lestrange will grab hold of her wand once again. Sort of. Helena Bonham Carter, who nailed her performance as the evil pure-blood witch in Harry Potter, will claim the part of Fairy Godmother in the live-action version of Cinderella.

The actress, who’s more renowned for her off-her-rocker type roles — like the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland and Madame Thénardier in Les Misérables — will try her hand at the Disney film, with fellow Harry Potter alum Kenneth Branagh (Professor Gilderoy Lockhart, anyone?) tapped to direct. The two lived together in the 1990s, collaborating on an adaptation of Frankenstein and The Theory of Flight.

Although buzz about another HP star joining the mix has since been squashed (thanks a lot, Emma Watson. Okay, kidding), the titular role of Cinderella has still been filled by a Brit. Downton Abbey‘s Lily James signed on for the movie at the end of April, knocking out others such as The Host‘s Saoirse Ronan.

Along with Helena and Lily, Game of ThronesRichard Madden scored the role of Prince Charming and Cate Blanchett landed the part of the coveted character, Lady Tremaine (a.k.a. the Evil Stepmother).

The film is slated for release sometime in 2014. But until the day comes where we’ll see some of our favorite Disney characters come to life, tell us: What do you think of the latest news? Do you believe Helena will make for a good Fairy Godmother? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!
