J.K. Rowling Penning ‘Harry Potter’ Spin-Off Movie Centered on Newt Scamander
Potterheads, rejoice! It's been confirmed by Warner Bros. that J.K. Rowling will return to the world of Harry Potter and pen a movie script that's a spin-off of the series. If you're familiar with the book, the movie will be based on one of Harry's textbooks titled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them — which will also be the name of the film — as well as it's author Newt Scamander.
Not too many details are known about the movie as of yet, but it will be set 70 years before the events of the Harry Potter series, and fans are being reassured that some familiar faces and creatures will turn up. In addition to that, this movie will be the first in a series, though it's not known how many movies this spin-off will spawn quite yet. Also, this particular series will take place in NYC — not England.
In a statement, J.K. said: "It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' into a film. I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of 'Fantastic Beasts,' realized by another writer was difficult. Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core Harry Potter fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favourite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood."
She continued: "As I considered Warners' proposal, an idea took shape that I couldn't dislodge. That is how I ended up pitching my own idea for a film to Warner Bros."
It's not known when the movie will hit theaters, but it's safe to say for fans of Harry Potter it can't come soon enough!
