The Remainder of Glee, Season 5 Will be Set in New York City
Ask, and (sometimes) you shall receive. With Glee on a downward spiral since its monumental tribute episode to Finn Hudson — may he R.I.P. — the creators have finally come up with an idea we can totally get on board with…
FOX's Kevin Reilly confirms that the remainder of the show's fifth season will be set entirely in New York — meaning more Rachel, Kurt and Santana! — with the sixth season still set to mark the end of the musical dramedy: "We do have it through next season, and that will be its final season. [Ryan Murphy]'s got some fantastic ideas on what we're going to do next year for the final year."
As for this year's cast, "Some are going to be graduating and moving; creatively, it would be ridiculous that everybody moves to New York. There will be some that will graduate and move on and they'll arc back in when we do special episodes. They'll always be a part of it. The way it's going to dovetail next season, we'll see some familiar faces coming around in some capacity. But for this season, there will be a graduation, several of the castmembers will move on and a few others will go to New York."
Considering the bombs that were "The End of Twerk" and "Puppet Master," we have no qualms whatsoever about this decision. It's basically the spin-off we always wanted. One problem we do see, though, is the name Glee; if there's no glee club, it doesn't really make sense… but whatevs!
