Is ‘Glee’ Trying Too Hard? New Directions Tries to “Edge Up” Image with Twerking

By  |

We already celebrated non-twerking celebrities, signifying our blase attitude toward the dance craze that went rampant this year (mostly due to Miley Cyrus' numerous attempts). Like, we're over it. Can we move on, please? According to Glee, not yet…

On tonight's episode, Darren Criss' character hops on the twerking train in a video, which goes viral. Of course when Will hears about it, he's inspired to harness the move's power to "edge up" New Directions' goody-goody image at Nationals. There will be twerking tutorials, as well as performances of Miley's "Wrecking Ball" and Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines." Greeeaaat.

Honestly, we were Gleeks from the very beginning, but it seems that the FOX show's trying a bit too hard to be the cool mom in a "Look over here, kids — I know what's hip" sorta way. Not sure when it started exactly; probably somewhere around the covers of "Gangnam Style" and "Call Me Maybe." With the dramedy hitting record lows, we're hoping the creators are able to pull it out of this funk soon and get back to the actually good/respectable performances we originally fell in love with. Whether or not you agree, we want you to voice your opinions before "The End of Twerk" ep in the comments below, or on our Glee message board!
