‘Girl Meets World’ Casts Sabrina Carpenter in the BFF Role
Earlier this week it was announced that the Boy Meets World spin-off, Girl Meets World, had found its “girl,” but another important role has just been cast. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that 13-year-old Sabrina Carpenter has landed the role of Riley Matthews’ “rebellious” BFF, Maya Fox. (Essentially, she’ll be the Shawn Hunter of Girl Meets World).
Sabrina, who is a native of Pennsylvania, is mostly known for her singing at this point. She is signed to Hollywood Records, which is also the label of Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and many more. However, it’s believed that her character on the show won’t be singing. In addition to nabbing the role in this pilot, she’s also has a role on FOX’s comedy pilot The Goodwin Games, as well as some guest spots on Disney Channel’s Austin & Ally.
Production on Girl Meets World is set to start some time this month, and if it gets picked up for series, it should have a spot on Disney Channel’s 2013 – 2014 schedule. Reprising their roles as Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel will be playing the parents of Riley Matthews, who will be played by Rowan Blanchard.
Rowan tweeted her well wishes to Sabrina saying, “OMG YES! THE AMAZZZING @SABRINANNLYNN IS PLAYING MAYA IN GMW! SO PROUD OF U GIRLY!” We have a feeling this will be the beginning of a beautiful friendship!
