12 Forgotten Girl Groups From the 1990s/2000s

By  |

Not every girl group reaches Spice Girls or Destiny’s Child levels of fame, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t enjoy the many moments we spent jamming to these female-driven bands on our… Walkmans or whatever music players were around at the time. In fact, we’re willing to say that they’re better than *gasp* Little Mix. You don’t have to believe us or anything; we’re sticking with our statement. Deal with it.

Without further ado, here are 12 forgotten girl groups from the ’90s/’00s that are worth your time. (NOTE: Some have revived since they first began, but the dates listed below are when they were in their prime.)

Play (2001–2005)
MOST KNOWN FOR: “Us Against the World, “I Must Not Chase the Boys”
The ladies also had a song with Dream Street’s Chris Trousdale!

Dream (1998-2003)
MOST KNOWN FOR: “He Loves U Not”
The four girls signed P. Diddy’s Bad Boy Records were living the American ‘dream.’

702 (1994–2006)
MOST KNOWN FOR: “Where My Girls At?”
Even though the R&B trio from Las Vegas was basically a one-hit wonder, we STILL can’t get enough of this song:

B*Witched (1997–2002)
MOST KNOWN FOR: “C’est La Vie”
So that’s where the saying came from.

Atomic Kitten (1998–2004)
MOST KNOWN FOR: “The Tide Is High (Get the Feeling)”
Blondie’s original hit became a staple for the English pop girl group.

All Saints (1993–2001)
MOST KNOWN FOR: “Never Ever”
True ’90s status.

Blaque (1996–2004)
MOST KNOWN FOR: “As If”
B.L.A.Q.U.E. — Believing, Life, Achieving, Quest, Unity, Everything. And in case you don’t recognize the song, which just so happens to be on the Bring It On soundtrack, perhaps you’ll recognize the members’ faces as they were all East Compton Clovers cheerleaders in the Kirsten Dunst film, too.

M2M (1999–2002)
MOST KNOWN FOR: “Don’t Say You Love Me”
Okay, so this was technically a duo, but still…

No Secrets (2000–2005)
MOST KNOWN FOR: “That’s What Girls Do”
An oldie but a goodie.

Nobody’s Angel (1998–2002)
MOST KNOWN FOR: “If You Wanna Dance”
“DJ’s playin’ my song” — and it’s this one:

3LW (1999–2003)
MOST KNOWN FOR: “Playas Gon’ Play”
Before The Cheetah Girls, Adrienne Bailon and Kiely Williams were part of this trio, which stood for ‘Three Little Women,’ along with Naturi Naughton.

Eden’s Crush (2001-2002)
MOST KNOWN FOR: “Get Over Yourself”
Prior to killing it as the lead singer/dancer in The Pussycat Dolls, as well werking it as a solo artist, Nicole Scherzinger was a contestant on Popstars, which earned her a spot in one of our personal favorite girl groups of all time. It’s a darn shame it didn’t last longer.
