Gigi Hadid Under Attack After She Makes (Technically Wrong) Zayn Malik Comment

By  |

Gigi Hadid & Zayn Malik have one of those relationships you can’t help but pay attention to. Ever since they first got together in November 2015, everyone’s been OB-sessed. That’s why their breakup — and makeup — took over headlines this past spring. (It also helps that they’re both ridiculously good-looking.)

Sadly, not everyone is paying attention to their relationship because they’re fans of the twosome. Some actually can’t stand them as a couple, preferring the former One Direction hottie with ex-fiancee Perrie Edwards… or themselves. So, you can imagine the chaos that ensued after the 21-year-old supermodel made a technically wrong comment about the 23-year-old hottie. Haters. Went. IN.

While in the Middle East — specifically, Dubai — to launch her TommyXGigi capsule collection with Tommy Hilfiger, Gigi couldn’t help but feel like it was a “homecoming.” After all, her father, Mohamed Hadid, is of Palestinian origin, so GH is partially Arab. “I love it here and I love going to places that remind me of my dad’s side of the family,” she explained. “I especially love it when you meet other Arabs. There’s such a sense of family regardless of whether you are blood related or not anywhere in the world. When someone comes up to me and they tell me, ‘I’m Palestinian,’ and we make a connection, it’s beautiful.”

It was her followup quote that sparked outrage across social media. “My boyfriend is also half Middle Eastern,” she said. “It’s just a connection that you make that’s really cool. It’s hard to explain, but you feel like you’re amongst [your] people.”

Cue the haterade:

Though Zayn does sport Arabic tattoos, he is actually Pakistani-British. And, if you’re getting technical, Pakistan is not a part of the Middle East; it’s actually one country over, in South Asia:

So, yes, she was wrong — but no need to jump down her throat about it!

If you remember, Zayn’s former love from Little Mix was also misinformed about Zayn’s background. When speaking back in 2013 about the wedding they never had, she told The Mirror, “I think maybe Barbados,” in reference to a potential location. “I would like it on the beach. There may well be an Indian element for Zayn’s family… I’d like that.” FYI, Zayn’s not Indian either.

Gigi Hadid sure dates hotties. Look at all the guys she was supposedly with before Zayn Malik:
