After Bella Hadid’s Lyme Disease Reveal, Gigi Admits to Her Own Awful Diagnosis
The Hadids have it rough — despite all their fame, money and good looks, they face their fair share of struggles, including diseases. In recent years, word got out that Bella Hadid, Anwar Hadid and their mother, Yolanda
Foster Hadid, all have Lyme Disease. Yolanda’s stepdaughters from her marriage to famed musician David Foster, Sara & Erin, tried to belittle the diagnosis, but it really is a severe hardship. And, unfortunately enough, Gigi Hadid, has her own disease to face.
While hosting a panel with Ruby Rose, Aly Raisman, Zoe Kravitz, and Lena Dunham, to talk about social media, fitness, health, and more, the 21-year-old supermodel, who recently walked the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, revealed, “My metabolism actually changed like crazy this year. I have Hashimoto’s disease.”
“It’s a thyroid disease,” she continued, “and it’s now been 2 years since taking the medication for it, so for the VS show I didn’t want to lose any more weight, I just want to have muscles in the right place, and if my butt can get a little perkier, then that’s good.”
While it sounds like the blonde beauty is making the best of her situation, the condition can be quite rough. “Hashimoto’s disease is a condition in which your immune system attacks your thyroid, a small gland at the base of your neck below your Adam’s apple,” according to the Mayo Clinic. “Inflammation from Hashimoto’s disease, also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, often leads to an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism).” Symptoms include fatigue and unexplained weight gain.
Last year, Victoria Justice admitted to suffering from the same disease in the November 2015 cover of Health magazine, which caused a lot of weight fluctuation for her as well.
