6 Female Stars Who Bravely Revealed Her Sexual Assault Story Online
With the current state of the news, it’s sometimes hard to find the hidden gems of justice and empowerment hidden among the sleaze. Everyone from Donald Trump basically admitting he sexually assaulted women in a 2005 hot-mic recording to the outcry earlier this year about Stanford rapist Brock Turner, it seems that lots of women are feeling the need to speak out against this terrible crime.
Many celebrities have used their voices as ways to end the silence that women feel they need to have, and to put some truth behind these crimes. Lots have even done so in some incredibly public and blunt ways. Whether it be through a social media post, a passage in their book or just telling it like it is through song, these beautiful stars deserve an award for their bravery:
Lady Gaga has always been an outspoken figure for female empowerment, and wrote the song "'Til It Happens to You" in support of those who, like her, have been sexually assaulted. She even invited a ton of sexual assault survivors up on stage with her to sing and stand in a united front.
While she has spoken out many times about her experiences, her Instagram post may have been the most poignant candid thing she had revealed. "I never thought anyone would ever love me because I felt like my body was ruined by my abuser. But he loves the survivor in me," the singer captioned a pic of her and ex-fiancé Taylor Kinney after the Oscars.
