Fans Call for YouTuber to Be Banned from Site Amid Scary Anorexia Rumors

By  |

Eugenia Cooney has always been skinny, but when fans noticed that the 22-year-old YouTube star started losing more and more weight recently, they began to get concerned. The YouTuber has always said she has no health condition that makes her naturally thin, and consistently avoids people’s questions of an eating disorder. While most of the brunette’s subscribers who are concerned for her well-being simply comment on her pictures/videos/etc., telling her that they’re worried, one fan decided to take the concern to another level — starting a petition to ban her from YT until she gets help.

“Eugenia Cooney has a serious medical condition and needs to seek help,” the Change.org petition’s description read. “She has been influencing her viewers by her serious underweight condition. She has not been getting better since the day she started YouTube, she’s getting more and more sick each day. And it’s honestly like she does this bodily harm to herself and shows young girls, such as her viewers on social media that it is ‘okay’ to be suffering from a medical condition such as Anorexia Nervosa… She may not be intentionally influencing her viewers, but showing more than 50 percent of her body in her videos and pictures is not helping girls with Anorexia or any eating disorder.”

The petition has since been deleted, but accumulated almost 20,000 signatures in the time it was live.

As much as she’s tried to ignore the comments in the past, Eugenia couldn’t turn a blind eye this time. The girl addressed the call to ban her from the site in a recent video, but once again said she’s perfectly healthy and people have nothing to worry about.

“Some people are saying I’m a bad influence on girls. I just want you guys to know I have seriously never have tried to be a bad influence on YouTube or to influence anyone badly. I would never want to do that. I have never told anyone to try to like lose weight or to try to like change the way they look or to look like me.”

If Eugenia is struggling, we sincerely hope she gets the help she needs.
