The 2018 Emmy Nominations are Finally in & the Competition is FIERCE

By  |

This year’s Emmys are as competitive as ever. The most-nominated dramas are Game of Thrones and Westworld, with a whopping 22 nominations each. EACH. The Handmaid’s Tale is another returning drama fightin’ for the award, while fan-favorites Stranger Things and This Is Us are also nominated for Outstanding Drama for their second seasons.

As for comedy, this category is typically dominated by Veep. However, the show’s final season was delayed while its star Julia Louis-Dreyfus underwent cancer treatment. Veep had previously won Outstanding Comedy Series three years in a row and its lead actress has won Lead Actress in a Comedy six years in a row.

The new show contenders for this category are The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Glow, Black-ish, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Atlanta. Atlanta has a few more noms total, including Donald Glover for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, which he took home last year. Modern Family fans are shocked that it wasn’t nominated after being on the list since it premiered in 2009.

As for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, Rachel Brosnahan, Issa Rae, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Lily Tomlin are a few crowd favorites nominated.

Unsurprisingly, last year’s winner of Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Sterling K. Brown, is nominated again, and he’ll be up against his This Is Us co-star, Milo Ventimiglia, for the second year in a row. Maybe Milo will take it this time? Or one of the other fantastic lead actors up for the award!

Once again this year, Millie Bobby Brown received a nom for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and she is up against some pretty tough competition. MBB is up against Alexis Bledel, Lena Headey, and last year’s winner, Ann Dowd.

Some things that shocked us: Jimmy Fallon didn’t get a nom with his fellow late-night talk show hosts like Samantha Bee, Jimmy Kimmel, Trevor Noah, James Corden, and Stephen Colbert.

This Is Us fans are feeling a little cheated because Mandy Moore and Justin Hartley didn’t get nominated for the second year in a row.

And if you’re a fellow This Is Us fan, you know exactly what they mean.

A comedy snub this year was The Good Place. While Ted Danson received a nom for lead actor, Kristen Bell and the show itself saw nothing and fans are shoooocked.

One-off nominations include Tiffany Haddish, for her guest appearance on SNL, and Viola Davis for playing her character, Annalise Keating from How to Get Away with Murder, on a crossover episode of Scandal. Random, but we’re here for it.
