The sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man is still underway as Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone have been spotted filming in New York City as recently as this week. (Shailene Woodley‘s role as Mary Jane Watson has seemingly wrapped up as she’s currently shooting Divergent in Chicago.) But while we all wait for #2’s arrival, there’s still the matter of Gwen Stacy’s fate to discuss.

It’s long been rumored that Emma’s character will get the axe in the Spidey sequel, since that’s what happens in the comic books. But Emma’s kept sort of mum on the subject, turning the tables and answering questions with questions during interviews… until now.

During her spread with Interview magazine, the 24-year-old actress discusses the parallels between the comic and the film: “Essentially the argument is that Spider-Man kills [Gwen] by accident. So the person she loves is the person who kills her, which is the most horrifying thing. Apparently people unsubscribed to the comic book when that happened because they were just so flipped-out over it. But, of course, I want to stay true to that… She snaps her neck because Spider-Man shoots a web out to save her, so in trying to save the person he loves, he kills her.”

Again, she doesn’t fully state that the flick will stay true to the written version, but she does say that she wants it to. But what do you want? Do you think the movie should mimic the comic? Or do you want Emma’s character to see it through to the end? The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters on May 2, 2014. Until then, share your thoughts in the comments!
