Shadowhunters Star DGAF That She’s Accused of Cultural Appropriation

By  |

Kylie Jenner, Miley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens are three female stars who are often slammed for cultural appropriation, and because they never seem to learn their lesson, it’s almost like we expect it from them nowadays. What we did not see coming, however, is a Shadowhunters star to join in on offending millions…and then not seem to care!

Emeraude Toubia recently got her hair braided while on vacation in Thailand with her boyfriend and shared a photo of the ‘do on social media.

While we’re sure the 27-year-old actress didn’t intentionally want to offend people, her shameless promotion of cornrows, “an ancient traditional African hairstyle,” had people calling her out for cultural appropriation.

Some people, on the other hand, did not feel her hairstyle was offensive at all.

You’d THINK once Emeraude realized she upset tons of people she’d deleted the picture and apologize, but sadly it seems that she’s missing the point of fans’ criticism. Instead of owning up to her error, the brunette wrote a series of tweets trying to defend her choice to wear the ‘do.

It’s not the braids that are the issues — it’s the overall hairstyle that is seriously offensive. *covers eyes*
