Ed Sheeran Says His Next Record is NOT Going to Be a Pop Album
Ed Sheeran is sayin’ buh-bye to pop music and hello to…well, we’re not too sure yet.
Let’s face it guys and gals, our fave ginger hit-maker can really do no wrong but according to Ed himself, he seems to be very thoughtful about the dangers of only sticking to the pop genre…mainly because you can’t just rest on your laurels if you want to continue to be a success! While the 26-year-old has seen MAJOR mainstream success with his more pop-centric albums, he said on a recent podcast with George Ezra that fans shouldn’t expect his next album to be like the ones he’s put out in the past.
“The next record that I’m making is not a pop album,” Ed revealed.
Long story short, the redhead that he thinks it’s dangerous to have a pop music career that just grows and grows because the expectations from the label and from fans can get out of control.
He continued, “The reason it’s not a pop album is people expect you to come and the next album they’re going to be like, ‘It has to be bigger than ‘Shape of You’ and it has to sell more than this.’ But if I control it and go, ‘Here’s a lo-fi record that I really f*cing love,’ my fans are gonna be like ‘Yay!’ and the pop world are gonna be like, ‘Oh well, maybe the next one.'”
Ed is just an artist with some serious raw talent and we think whatever he does is going to be golden. Granted, there’s a huge looming cloud with pessimistic thoughts like ‘maybe it won’t sell as many copies’ but hey, if it’s awesome and fulfilling for him, who cares. Remember that kick-ass album Lady Gaga made with Tony Bennett a couple years ago?
The “Perfect” crooner also admitted that he already has six or seven songs ready for the new album AND he mentioned that it’ll have a very acoustic feel. Sounds good to us!
