Final Divergent Book Allegiant Split Into Two Films
BIG NEWS, GUYS! (Yes, this is an all-capital-letters kinda moment.) Allegiant, the final book in Veronica Roth's Divergent trilogy, will be split into two parts for the Shailene Woodley-led movie franchise. O… M… G!
It was just announced on the series' official social media accounts that Allegiant — Part I will hit theaters on March 18, 2016 (which we already knew), with Part II scheduled for March 24, 2017 (which we obviously did not know), meaning Divergent will follow in the footsteps of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. Considering the first movie garnered $117 million at the domestic box office in its first three weeks, we have no doubts that the rest of the films will be worldwide successes.
Although we're still in major debate over the shocking ending to the novels — join us here! — we're pumped to see how Shailene, Theo James, Miles Teller, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort and the rest of the cast bring Allegiant to life over the course of two flicks.
The second installment to the film franchise, Insurgent, is tapped to hit theaters on March 20, 2015. Are you freaking the eff out like we are?? Do you think there should even be a two-part finale? Or is it unnecessary in this particular case? Tell us all of your related thoughts in the comments below, or on our Divergent message board!
