7 Disney Channel Stars Who Got Real About Their Experiences with Therapy
Until fairly recently, seeking help via therapy wasn’t something many people spoke openly about… especially not celebrities. Like anxiety and depression, therapy was another taboo topic of discussion and was continuously shoved under the rug. Luckily, in recent years, many celebrities have come forward to bring light to these issues in hopes of changing the public’s perception of mental health.
Unlike stars of older generations, it’s no longer possible for famous people to hide certain things going on in their lives. Everywhere they turn they are bombarded with paparazzi or are being spied on through windows and thin walls. It’s almost impossible for them to keep anything a secret.
While it’s unfortunate that celebrities have no sense of privacy in their own lives, it’s refreshing to see many of these young stars advocate for mental health. You may even be surprised to know that some of these incredible advocates started their careers on Disney Channel! That’s right! Here’s our list of Disney stars who have spoken publicly about their experience therapy:
Demi has come a long way since canceling her stint on the Jonas Brothers' tour back in 2010 to seek treatment for "emotional and physical issues." We later came to learn that the Sonny with a Chance actress suffers from bipolar disorder and was dealing with an eating disorder, addiction and cutting at that time.
However, since seeking help for her issues, Demi has become a huge proponent for mental health and carries out a detailed wellness plan in her day-to-day life. Demi told The Cut, "I work out daily, I talk to the people around me, and make sure that I stay in therapy and do the things that I need to make sure that I live a happy and healthy life." Get it, girl!
