Harry Potter Star Admits to Secret Long-Term Mental Illness & Suicidal Thoughts

Yesterday marked an important occasion — and we’re not talking about Columbus Day. While the date of Columbus Day changes every year, October 10 is always World Mental Health Day. The goal of WMHD is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the globe, and mobilize efforts in support of mental health. One particular human who contributed to the conversation was Devon Murray, who you may know as Seamus Finnigan from the Harry Potter franchise. And his words are resonating with a LOT of people today.

The 27-year-old actor took to Twitter to announce that he’s been battling a mental illness, ever since his days in the HP series:

He then revealed the worst: He contemplated taking his life as recently as this year:

But, he’s choosing to speak out about it, and is now encouraging others to reach out to those closest to them if they suspect they’re suffering, too:
