Demi Lovato is currently getting treatment in a rehab facility after overdosing on drugs at the end of July, and while she’s doing really well right now, she still has a long way to go until she’s fully recovered. According to a new report, the 26-year-old suffered “substantial” damage to her voice as a result of the OD and it’s going to take her a significant amount of time to get back to being the singer we once knew.

A source tells OK! Magazine, “After Demi suffered her overdose, there was a substantial amount of damage done to her voice.”

“Damage has been done to her voice and her vocal strength,” the insider continues. “She will recover and be back to the singer we know and love, but at she will need some care to assist with her voice. Obviously when a person’s body goes through the kind of trauma that Demi’s did, it’s a real shock to the body.”

D.Lo’s mom, Dianna De La Garza, recently opened up about the scary aftermath of the overdose and admitted that they initially didn’t know if Demi was going to live or die.

Dianna explained, “We just didn’t know for two days if she was going to make it or not. I was very concerned, and I was trying to be strong for her and for her sisters and for my family back home. I just feel like the reason she’s alive today is because of the millions of prayers that went up that day.”

Demi suffered unknown complications that kept her in the hospital for almost two weeks following the incident, but fortunately recovered and went straight to an in-patient treatment center to fight for sobriety once again.
