Demi Lovato Supports Weight-Loss Tea & is Accused of Promoting Eating Disorders
Lately Demi Lovato has been all about promoting body positivity and confidence in your own skin, so you can imagine how shocked people were when they saw her, someone who has struggled with eating disorders in the past, supporting a detox tea on Instagram yesterday.
She captioned the promotional image, “This year is all about #selflove truly taking care of myself and exercising has changed everything for me. @teamiblends has #sponsored my 30 day detox challenge to help get rid of toxins and my bloating for summer. I’m on Day 7 right now & it’s so easy! I just drink their tea every single day in my favorite purple tumbler. I love taking it to shoots and the studio with me. If you are ready to be your best YOU this summer, use my Code: DEMI for 20% off your detox program when you check out! I want all of you to do the challenge with me! #thankyouteami #teamitumbler #healthylifestyle”
While Teami Blends says it is an “all-natural loose leaf tea company that combines only the highest quality ingredients, its products also promote “reduction in cravings and appetite [and] increased metabolism,” meaning it can be used for weight loss. Thousands of fans saw this as particularly problematic because it can promote eating disorders in young girls and is basically the opposite of what the 24-year-old often says she stands for.
“No filter no edit, love your body the way it is,” the “Body Say” crooner wrote on Insta just days before promoting the tea.
These 15 celebs struggled with (and OVERCAME!!) an eating disorder:
She admits in the February 2014 issue of Seventeen, "I started self-harming when I was a junior. I would withhold food or withhold going out with my friends, based on how well I did that day in school... I didn't know what was right and what was wrong, so I think I created this bizarre system of checks and balances to create order in my world. But it really backfired."
