Demi Lovato’s Sister Pens Emotional Tribute to Singer on 26th Birthday

Demi Lovato spent her 26h birthday, which was yesterday, August 20, in an in-patient rehab facility. The singer has been receiving treatment ever since she was discharged from the hospital following a drug overdose in late July and will allegedly stay there for several months.

While D.Lo’s birthday may not have been the most glamorous, it was still an incredibly special day seeing as she was very close to not even surviving to her 26th year. Younger sister Madison De La Garza recognizes just how lucky she is to have Demi here with her still and penned an incredibly emotional tribute to her older sibling on Instagram as a result.

The 16-year-old posted a throwback photo of herself and the “Tell Me You Love Me” crooner and thanked the people who saved her life.

“today could have been one of the worst days of my life, but instead i get to spend it thanking God, the incredible doctors, demi’s team, and everyone across the world who offered their support — without all of these people i wouldn’t have my big sister anymore,” she captioned the sweet picture. “i’ve been thinking about how i wish that everyone could see the silly little things that she does, like how her nostrils move when she says certain words and when she brushes my hair behind my ear when i’m trying to sleep, because those are the things i’m thankful for today. they seem so small, but those little things make up my sister — not a singer, not a celebrity, and definitely not what she’s been described as in the media — she’s a daughter, a friend, and my big sister… and i am so, so thankful that i can tell her happy birthday. #happybirthdaydemi”

Madison, along with older sister Dallas and mom Dianna, all stayed by Demi’s side as she recovered in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for almost two weeks following the overdose.

DL thanked her family, team and medical staff in her post-overdose statement because, without them, she says she “wouldn’t be here writing this letter to all of you.”
